The #InternetComputer is designed to have unbounded capacity by scaling out to different subnet blockchains. IC now supports an MVP version of subnets splitting, to avoid too much load on a single subnet. #Infinity Scaling is one more step closer! DFINITY team announced “IC + ETH” sample project ready for show case！

Important Announcements

• The #InternetComputer now supports an MVP version of subnets splitting, orchestrated through a series of NNS proposals, following years of work after proposal 35672 approval!

• The upcoming cycles ledger, target set to launch in October 2023, will streamline cycle management by enabling principal IDs to hold cycles.

• DFINITY Foundation announced ICP.Lab 5.0 Gaming & Metaverse updates, 14 onsite teams, 37 individuals, and 11 remote teams will join in the event next week.

• Dominic Williams joined a panel at @LuganoNFTfest to discuss the future for Web3 about Salability, Sustainability & Censorship Resistance.

• Boundary Nodes

  • Sep 06, DFINITY team propose using unassigned nodes as API boundary nodes, ensuring rewards remain unchanged. After exploring specific hardware, team will discuss a rewarding scheme similar to existing node rewards.

  • Sep 06, For security conscious, DFINITY's approach is to split users into two groups: convenience focused users and security conscious users.

    • The IC HTTP Proxy, a local desktop proxy for security-conscious users, is in the PoC phase but is being actively developed for production readiness.

    • The convenience-focused group lacks a short-term e2e trustless connection solution, requiring native browser integration, which may require decentralization due to external collaborations. Decentralized API boundary nodes can help federate HTTP Gateways, providing alternate routes to canisters. Community hosted gateways can verify their behavior.

• Increased Canister Smart Contract Memory

  • Sep 6, DFINITY plans to propose in an upcoming replica version to further increase stable memory from 64GiB to 96GiB. As the biggest canister on the IC, the Bitcoin canister, has been pushing close to 64GiB.

General Regulations

• Sina Weibo removed 80 influencer accounts promoting cryptocurrency activities, accusing them of breaching eight regulations related to telecommunications, finance, banking, online marketing, securities, exchanges, and internet safety.

• Swiss Blockchain Federation and Crypto Valley Association warn that staking services will no longer be offered in Switzerland under competitive conditions due to a change in practice by FINMA. A banking license would be required for staking services in the future.

• Visa is enhancing cross-border payment transaction speed by integrating its stablecoin settlement capabilities with Circle's USDC stablecoin on the Solana blockchain.

• Vance Spencer, co-founder of Framework Ventures, predicts that AI and blockchain technology could merge, with AI models potentially serving as valuable assets on-chain.

• MetaMask has introduced a 'Sell' feature, enabling users to convert digital assets to traditional currencies like USD and GBP, initially supporting Ethereum Mainnet and expanding to native gas tokens.

• Circle's USD Coin has been launched on both Base and Optimism networks, enabling account holders to send the stablecoin and making USDC transfers to Base available.
