IC Protocol Updates and Forum Digest

  • Core Protocol Progress

  • Boundary Nodes

    • current boundary nodes spec roughly are: 8 core CPU, 32 GB of memory and ~500GB of disk.

    • Based on new proposal, boundary nodes will be split into two parts:

      • the API Boundary Nodes that serve only the Internet Computer API endpoints (query, call, read state, status).

      • the Gateways that map between a protocol and the Internet Computer API.

    • Who can run the gateway? The answer is Anyone .

    • Timeline: not fixed yet. Target to start deploying the new API boundary nodes towards the end of the year.

    • Stable Structures: Removing the Bounded Size Requirement

      • Target: still allow developers to specify bounds, as that can be useful in making memory optimizations internally, but it would be optional.

      • Solution #1: Introduce “Unbounded” types.

      • Solution #2: Merge the BoundedStorable trait into the Storable trait.

    • A new price function for HTTPS outcalls

      • Jul 5, Proposal 123311 has been exceccuted. The new pricing for HTTPS outcalls is coming into force when the corresponding subnet is upgraded to the new elected replica version 7742d9.

      • Current price setup per HTTPS outcall:

        400M + 100K * (request_size + max_response_bytes) cycles

      • New price proposal for a 13 nodes subnet:

        49.14M + 5200 request_size + 10400 max_response_bytes cycles

      • The proposed new price formula should reduce the price per outcall by around 10X factor.

General Regulations

  • Jul 6, In Denmark, the financial regulator has instructed Saxo Bank to scrap its crypto holdings due to their unregulated status in the country.

  • Jun 30, Hongkong government announced the establishment of the Task Force on promoting Web3 Development.

  • Jul 4, according to July 4 notice, crypto businesses based demostic or elsewhere in the world with ads that reach UK-based individuals will have to comply with the rules.Firms or individual promoters flouting these rules could end up with up to two years in jail, pay “unlimited” fines or both.

  • Jul 4, The U.K.'s Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Bill, which will help law-enforcement agencies seize and freeze crypto used for crime, took a step closer to entering the statute book after being passed by Parliament’s upper chamber on Tuesday.
