    • SNS Update: August 18, 2023

      • Proposals to update SNS are arranged to release on Friday for voting. With the proposals, new versions of the ICRC Ledger suite (ICRC Index, ICRC Archive, ICRC Ledger) will be made accessible to new and existing SNSs.

    • Replica-signed queries

      • Aug 17, the first change of exposing the public keys of the replicas in the state tree is finished and the proposal is accepted. It will hit mainnet soon. Current team is working the second change of adding a signature into query responses.This feature will introduce an additional field called signatures in the CBOR map above while keeping all the existing fields unchanged.

General Regulations

  • The Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Patrick McHenry (NC-10), led Republicans on the House Financial Services Committee in sending letters to Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) President and CEO Robert Cook and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler regarding the approval of Prometheum Ember Capital LLC as the first and only special purpose broker-dealer for digital assets.

  • Singapore’s central bank, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), has finalized a regulatory framework for stablecoins requiring regulated issuers to hold necessary reserves on hand.The framework will apply to single-currency stablecoins (SCS) pegged to the Singapore Dollar or any G10 currency issued within its borders.

  • Crypto exchange Coinbase (COIN) will suspend trading with USDT, DAI and RAI stablecoins for Canadian users starting at the end of this month.

  • Payments giant Mastercard has created a forum where crypto industry players can discuss and collaborate on central bank digital currencies, injecting its influential voice into the CBDC conversation as nations around the world consider whether to digitize their money.

  • @CocaCola has launched a mint of the 8 NFTs on the #Base network.

  • The start-up accelerator G-Rocket International Accelerator Korea officially launched. Korea is one of the key regions in G-Rocket's Asia deployment, which will expand the acceleration services in different vertical areas, and will open up the technology exchange between Hong Kong and Korea.

  • Coinbase launches the "Stand with Crypto Alliance" to engage the crypto community in crafting regulatory solutions ahead of the upcoming US Congress votes.

  • Visa suggests leveraging Ethereum’s ERC-4337, the current standard that enables smart contracts on the blockchain to serve as wallets via a process called "account abstraction," and a paymaster contract — a smart-contract account that can sponsor gas fees on behalf of the user. The service would allow users to use a Visa card to pay directly for gas fees.

  • Nova Labs Inc., a blockchain startup building what it calls a “decentralized wireless network”, said it’s offering a phone plan that costs $5 a month for unlimited text, talk and data. The plan will initially only be available for Miami residents or people who receive an invite to access the product.
