  • Researchers from DFINITY foundation announced new protocols for threshold Schnorr signature which can generate 50,000 Schnorr signatures per second, based on the assumption of a signing committee of 49 parties, at most 16 of which are corrupt .

  • DFINITY Foundation announced officially joined SUSS NiFT Blockchain Security Alliance. A commitment to collaboration and mutual cooperation for enhanced security across the global #blockchain ecosystem.

  • Ledger announced customers can create an ICP account in Ledger Live and receive and send ICP tokens from own account.

  • Proposal 123978, to Allow Modclub to Resume SNS Token Swap Proposal after multiple OpenSnsTokenSwap bug fix is implemented.

  • Proposal 123924, enable principal htsl7-baaaa-aaaam-ablva-cai in SNS-W to initiate the generation of an SNS for EMC.

  • Highlights

    • Aug 11, @fred from DFINITY team metioned that on Apple devices, new passkeys are synchronized using iCloud synchronization. If users are uncomfortable with synchronized passkeys, your best option at the moment is to buy a YubiKey and use that to sign into II.

  • Developers

    • Cycles Bookkeeping Incident Retrospective

      • Aug 11, DFINITY engineer discovered a critical bug in the cycles bookkeeping code. In theory under specific circumstances, cycles consumed during a message execution could be added to the cycle balance of the canister instead of being subtracted from it, creating cycles out of thin air. Based on analysing metrics of cycles minted, cycles burned, and cycle balances of canisters, we believe that this bug has not been exploited and that it had no impact.

    • Composite Queries

      • DFINITY Foundation blog release: Composite Queries: Horizontal Scaling for Multi Canister Dapps

        • The feature is launched and enables developers to use multiple canisters for sharding data and balancing load. Dapps' horizontal scalability is one step better. However, this feature can currently only be executed for dapp canisters under the same subnet and is not yet functional in replicated mode.

    • Ghost: Aug9, announced that will take a snapshot of IC GHOST NFT holders. Each NFT will receive a whopping 5880 $GHOST airdrop.

    • Distrikt: Aug 9, Distrik announced to kick off creator economy by community pool tipping on distrikt.

    • Kinic: Proposal 25, This motion is to show that the DAO has approved the design work as chosen in the competition. Funds from the Kinic Developer Organization will be used; no extra funds from the treasury are being requested.

    • IC1101: Aug 7, calling all talented artists in the community to showcase NFT Art.

    • Fleek: Aug 8, Fleek has updated whiter paper released to cover several additional performance optimizations.

    • KarmaTechOnline - Web3 Africa engaged over 60 participants at the ICP DAPP Connect event held in Ghana.

General Regulations

  • The UK Treasury penned a consultation paper on stablecoins, outlining how it’s considering approaching stablecoin regulation. The UK government is considering tapping the Bank of England to oversee stablecoins alongside the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

  • Binance said Tuesday it has become the first crypto exchange to secure full licensure in El Salvador.

  • License from Monetary Authority of Singapore’s marks completion of the regulatory process there for Blockchain.com and Crypto.com

  • France’s securities regulator is updating its regulations for digital asset service providers, The changes, which go into effect Jan. 1, 2024, will require certain digital asset service providers (DASPs) in the country to abide by “enhanced” registration requirements.

  • Payments firm PayPal announced its launch of a U.S. dollar stablecoin in conjunction with Paxos. The token will be pegged to the dollar and “gradually” made available to PayPal’s customers in the U.S.

  • The Aragon Association, one of the biggest crypto projects building tools to support decentralised governance, is trying to get out of its own governance pickle.
