General Regulations

• The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) said that if a taxpayer stakes cryptocurrency on a proof-of-stake blockchain and receives rewards, the rewards should be included in the taxpayer’s gross income in the taxable year when they gain control over them.

• Kenya has suspended Worldcoin operations in the country due to concerns about public safety and the integrity of financial transactions.

• Revolut plans to close US crypto services due to regulatory situation.

Industry News

• Crypto exchange Binance could face U.S. Department of Justice fraud charges, though prosecutors are weighing alternatives given the risk of an FTX-style bank run, Semafor reported.

• The Celo Foundation announced on Wednesday that Google’s computing cloud service, Google Cloud, is running a validator on the Celo network, joining Deutsche Telekom and other ecosystem contributors.

• According to Alchemy’s latest Web3 Development Report, web3 developer activity continued to grow in the second quarter, both year on year and quarter on quarter. Ethereum and crypto wallet software developer kits (SDKs) saw 26.8 million and 11.1 million installations in the second quarter, respectively.
